Gaylord Area Attractions!

Keeping everyone happy can make or break a vacation, so spend your downtime enjoying one of our many local outdoor attractions. After you’ve checked everything off your Gaylord to-do list or the little ones just need something new, that’s when it’s time to venture out and discover the many local treasures that will put a smile on your face.

Elk Viewing – Otsego County offers two very unique elk viewing options!  Venture to the Pigeon River Country State Forest for a wilderness excursion or visit our City Elk Park just minutes from downtown to see these massive, beautiful creatures.

Louis M. Groen Nature Preserve – This charming preserve was formerly a lumber camp.  Along with winding, forested trails and a picturesque lake, the remnants of the camp and sawmill are also located on the property.

Owlpine Bear Trail – View the creative talents of local artists as you “hunt ” for these 4’ tall bears located throughout our community. Each bear was purchased and decorated by a local business or organization as a fundraiser for the Otsego Wildlife Legacy Society.

Downtown History Walking Tour – Enjoy the fresh air and a noteworthy history lesson of the Gaylord area on this self-guided walking tour.

Fall Color Tours – Our high elevation creates some never ending views that you won’t want to miss. Choose one of our color tours or stop at our Gaylord Information Center for a free map of the area and plan your own.

Energy Outlet – Take the kiddos to this quaint park filled with slides, swings and climbing equipment. Throughout the park are structures embedded with information and etchings of the dinosaur age, and surrounding the playground area is a paved walking track.

Downtown Gaylord Farmer’s Market – During the summer months, take advantage of our local Farmer’s Market under the Pavilion every Wednesday and Saturday.  Browse an assortment of local produce, vegetables and locally made products.
