It’s November – a month torn between two seasons. While we take our final bike ride or hike in tennis shoes for the year and start waterproofing our winter boots, it’s easy to find yourself hunkering down inside as your body adjusts to the newfound crispness in the air.
But the indoors isn’t all bad. In fact, it can be downright delicious!
That’s right, we’re talking about our culinary scene. If you haven’t visited Gaylord, Michigan in a while, start fasting now. The Alpine Village embraces every palate, which means you’ll still find your tried and true favorite eateries, along with some new kids on the block that are pushing out some impressive eats.

There’s no easy way to rank the countless dining options now calling Gaylord home, so we’ve let our friends at Trip Advisor do the work for us. Here’s their list (mixed with our experiences and insider intel):
Bennethum’s Northern Inn
If you’ve never sampled the mouthwatering menu at Bennethum’s Northern Inn, stop what you’re doing and head there right now. Seriously. Some of the best gourmet dishes and upscale pub fare your taste buds will experience is waiting for you at this rustic but refined establishment right across from Otsego Lake. You’ll always find your favs on the menu – Northern Inn Perch, Black Forest Schnitzel and their signature seasoned Rib Eye Steak. But foodies will find themselves eagerly awaiting the first of each month to see what new dishes pop up on their monthly-themed menu (think Asian-infusion, Oktoberfest, Italian).

Alpine Tavern & Eatery
If flavor and atmosphere top the list of your restaurant must-haves, then Alpine Tavern is where you’ll be having your next meal. Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly dining experience, classic sports bar with flat screens or the site of your next girls’ night out, they manage to pack it all into this trendy downtown establishment. And while we want to give their house-made food all the bragging rights it deserves – decadent white chicken chili, burgers stuffed any way you like and slow-roasted brisket just to name a few – we would be remiss if we didn’t mention their spacious patio complete with yard games, live entertainment and a tiki bar.

Gobbler’s of Gaylord
If only it could be Thanksgiving every day and you didn’t have to cook the turkey or mash those potatoes. The name says it all when it comes to our landmark restaurant, Gobbler’s. Indulge in a classic turkey dinner, complete with hand-whipped potatoes, homemade gravy, fresh green beans and of course, a hearty side of stuffing any time of the year. Of course, they have a full menu with a variety of other items…but you’ll keep going back for the turkey!

The Bearded Dogg Lounge
A new owner, new look and new menu only accelerated the Bearded Dogg’s momentum in 2019! With an eclectic vibe, focus on locally sourced produce, meats and liquor, their intriguing dishes are infused with care and finesse from your appetizer to your dessert. The seasonal items couldn’t get any fresher, and the Dogg works not only in conjunction with community farms, but even has an on-site garden to make sure your greens are extra green. Another perk of this fab eatery is the easy North Central State Trail access for bikers in the summer and snowmobilers in the winter.
