Towerman's Watch Trail
Expand All
Description
A great introductory pathway to the Pigeon River Country State Forest, the Towerman’s Watch Pathway begins at the PRC Headquarters. Going south from the Headquarters takes you through towering pine stands and over rolling hills. Highlights on the main 3 mile loop include the Witness Tree, a beaver pond, and the P.S. Lovejoy Monument. Seeing wildlife is common so keep on the lookout for deer, ruffed grouse, snowshoe hare, song birds, elk and turkey. The 3/4 mile old fire tower loop takes you to the site of the former Pigeon River Middle Fire Tower, a three-legged tower where the towerman stood watch for signs of a wildfire. The intersection between the two loops is marked.
Both loops are moderate with short sections that are difficult. Bicycles are not allowed.
