Address:

1179 Elk View Drive
Gaylord, MI 49735

About:

Elk View Park is now offering multiple viewing locations. The newest location is an extension of Aspen Park, featuring restrooms, a playground and a fully accessible elk viewing platform. From the Elk View Drive address, make a left onto Commerce Blvd and then a left into the parking area. The previous location adjacent to the Elk’s Lodge is still available for viewing.

The City of Gaylord maintains a herd of more than 60 elk and provides public viewing areas where visitors can stop and take in these impressive animals. Elk can be seen at the new viewing area near Aspen Park or at the old Elk View Park, located near the Elk’s Lodge on Grandview.

The herd is contained on 108 acres. City staff feed the animals corn, hay and sugar beets, plus vitamins. The herd started with three elk when a local nature center closed in the late 1980s.

Currently, a few of the bulls weigh well over 800 pounds and stand roughly 6′ tall. The bulls will don their massive antlers during the fall and winter, dropping them in the spring.

There is no cost to enjoy the park, free family fun!
