Spending a few sunny days in Gaylord, Michigan, this spring? We’ve got some highlights for your next outdoor adventure in our neck of the woods!
Day 1

Evening
Drop your luggage at one of our inviting lodging properties and head downtown, where you’ll find a smorgasbord of delicious dining options. A few local favorites include Alpine Tavern, Rafi’s Hibachi & Sushi Bar, CRAVE and El Patron. Skip dessert and catch a famous northern Michigan sunset over expansive Otsego Lake.
Day 2

Morning
Rise and shine and head to Rise and Dine for traditional and unique breakfast favorites. Strawberry stuffed French toast and the hearty Alpine Breakfast are worth loosening your belt for.
Downtown is calling, so get out and explore our local shops and their many specialties. You’ll find handmade items at K & M Mercantile, exquisite jewelry at Hogan’s Jewelers and a quilter’s paradise at Compass Star Quilt Shop. Don’t forget to stop at the Alpine Chocolat Haus for their famous chocolate-covered potato chips.

Afternoon
If you’re fortunate enough to visit during our somewhat unpredictable morel mushroom season, head straight into the Pigeon River Country State Forest or your other favorite stretch of state land and start hunting! These savory treats can be found fresh on local menus if your luck runs out.
Treat yourself after all that fresh air and finish your day with a memorable meal at Bennethum’s Northern Inn. Remember those delectable morel mushrooms you were seeking? You’ll find them on the menu here!
Day 3

Morning
There’s no time to spare, so grab and go with a quick stop at Brennan’s Up North. This family-owned and operated coffee shop’s seasonal beverage selection will satisfy any morning craving. Bagels, egg burritos, muffins and scones will keep you going until lunch.
Rent an e-bike from E-Bike Adventures located right along the coveted North Central State Trail. This uber-popular pathway runs 62 glorious miles north to the Mackinac Bridge, or 11 miles south to the village of Waters. Whatever your adventure level, an e-bike can get you there! Or, if you prefer to bring your own bike, harness your inner pedal power and cruise.

Afternoon
Home may be calling you back by now, but set aside some time for a visit to Elk View Park. Our community’s beloved elk herd resides on approximately 100 acres mere blocks from downtown, and they aren’t camera shy. Walk right up to the fence for a closer look at these magnificent animals.
It’s never easy to pack up and leave, but we know you’ll return for more outdoor fun in Gaylord, Michigan!
